MEET THE DESIGNER | Georgia Young

Here at Emma & Grace, we see a lot of wedding gowns each day, so it is no surprise that we love gowns that are truly unique and unexpected. From the moment we first saw the Georgia Young collection we fell in love and knew we needed to stock the gowns in our Denver studio for our lovely brides. With the use of strong lines, geometric shapes, clean fabrics and contemporary vibes, these gowns are the perfect piece for the modern bride. Plus, Georgia is one of the most wonderful designers to work with. Her attention to detail and construction is unparalleled.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR BUSINESS
 
Having grown up in Melbourne, Australia I have always found this city to be my source of inspiration. From discovering the best chai, lining up for freshly baked goods to photographing heritage architecture in my suburb, Melbourne has such a rich culture that I fall in love everyday. 
When I’m not designing or sewing with my team in my Brunswick studio, I am either at a local cafe, relaxing at home with a good book or going for a weekend getaways with my husband. 
 
The Georgia Young label was created for the bride that didn’t want to look like a ‘bride’. There is a strong distinctive design difference with our gowns, that isn’t quite like anything else. With the use of strong lines, geometric shapes, clean fabrics and contemporary vibes, these gowns are the perfect piece for the modern bride. I am always inspired by I love the idea of shape, movement and texture; something that is embedded in my design style.
 
All our Georgia Young gowns are made to order and expertly crafted by our team in our architecturally designed Brunswick studio.

 

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN BRIDAL DESIGN?
After a few years of studying Couture, then working in a Melbourne Couture house for another three years, it was time to start the dream! With design, originality, and craftsmanship are at the forefront of the design process, the Georgia Young label was launched in Melbourne in 2023. 

 

FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I absolutely love the process of design new collections. I love that we can break the rules. I love that when I create gowns, they feel genuine to our brand and aesthetic.

FAVORITE GOWN?

As much as I don’t like to play favourites, I am loving the Dalmatian gown from our latest Ultraviolet Collection. It is fun to make and i'm loving the sleek 60’s silhouette

FAVORITE PLACE TO TRAVEL?

Anywhere new! I am big travel person as I find visiting new destinations and immersing myself in different cultures inspires my creativity. I am constantly inspired from every angle, from discovering new forms of architecture, trying new foods, listening to the sounds of the. City and observing historical art. After a trip I always have a full sketch book & camera full of photos! 

IF YOU COULD GIVE YOUR BRIDES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Your gowns should be a reflection of you in every way, including your style. Don’t be afraid to be different. Learn a bit about where your gown comes from, how it's made and who makes it. A Couture gown tells a story and everyone that is involved in that gown helps add to that story.
